A Feast At Heorot

Descriptive Writing – In Role

(by Year 6 Pupils)

The mighty Hrothgar, King of the Danes, has had a new mead hall built, Heorot. The children in Year 6 are now Hrothgar’s warriors and have been invited to a feast there. What will they see? What will they smell or taste? What will they hear? How will they feel? These are examples of first drafts by some of the children. Like all writers, listening to it read out loud like this helps them to work out how effective their writing is, or could be. They will be revising and improving their writing soon. Can you help them with any feedback?

Raid On Lindisfarne!

In year 6, as part of our learning about the Vikings, we discovered information about one of the first Viking raids at Lindisfarne Abbey on Holy Island, Northumbria in January 793 AD. Some of us have written, filmed and edited a television news report about the event. Here is an example by Afrah, Falak and Fatima. And yes . . . we know the Saxons didn’t have televisions or electricity!

Year 4 Visit Quarry Bank Mill

Photo 29-04-2016, 13 01 22

In the last week of April, year 4 children travelled back in time to the 1830s at Quarry Bank Mill. They experienced what life was like for the young apprentices who lived there and worked at the cotton mill in the 19th century.

Here some of the children use their ICT and writing skills to imagine what it would have been like to be an apprentice.
